Donate to the GCLS
A gift to the Golden Crown Literary Society will help ensure our financial future and will enable us to continue supporting lesbian literature and writers.  Your contribution will help to provide education and opportunities for authors of lesbian literature to come together, share their knowledge, experience, and expertise with each other, and promote lesbian literature.

Not everyone has the financial means to make a donation right now, but most of us could designate a portion of a life insurance policy or some other type of bequest in our will or trust, to go towards an organization that ensures that your gift will be used to continue good work in your name. 

Ways to Give:

  • One-time Donation:  Donate online now!
  • Monthly Pledge: For your convenience, GCLS can easily deduct a monthly pledge from your credit card for any amount you choose. You can help make a difference with just $10 a month charged to your Mastercard, VISA, Discover, or American Express.
  • Honorariums/Memorials: Make a gift to honor someone on a special occasion or in memory of a loved one. Create a new literary award in memory of a loved one.  There is no greater satisfaction than knowing that you have helped others by giving to GCLS while honoring someone special in your life or paying tribute to a deceased loved one. Memorials and Honorariums are acknowledged in the GCLS quarterly newsletter.
  • Corporate Sponsorship: Our annual conference brings readers and authors together in one location, and provides opportunities to talk and to listen.  This is the backbone of our fund raising program to support GCLS programs and services. Becoming a co-sponsor of our conference will enable your company to reach different target audiences.
  • Leave a legacy: There can perhaps be no more important act of generosity than recognizing your favorite charity in your will or other part of your estate plan. An estate gift to the Golden Crown Literary Society ensures our financial future and will enable us to continue supporting and promoting lesbian literature in the future.

Why Should You Include A Charitable Gift in Your Will or Trust?

It’s simple to do.
It can be as easy as including language stating, “I give $10,000 to Golden Crown Literary Society.”

You can change your mind.
We won’t receive the gift until after your death. During your lifetime, you can amend anything you choose, i.e. beneficiaries or amounts.

Tax-wise, it could be beneficial.
Gifts to qualified, charitable organizations reduce the value of your estate for estate tax purposes. It’s an easy way to support the GCLS. We would be grateful for your gift. Bequests of every size build our future financial strength.

Become a Partner For Life.
The Partner for Life Legacy Circle was established to recognize the generosity of friends of the Golden Crown Literary Society who have included us in their will or estate plan.

A will is the easiest and most effective means to ensure that you fully provide for your family and that your assets are distributed as you wish. How you include a gift in your will or trust depends on what you wish to accomplish, and what you want to give to the GCLS.

The following are some ways that you could consider leaving something in your will for the GCLS:

Give a percentage of the residue of your estate:
Namely, the amount left after taxes and expenses are satisfied and specific bequests have been paid: “I give 25% of the remainder of my estate to the Golden Crown Literary Society.”

Give a specific dollar amount or item of property:
“I give the Golden Crown Literary Society $25,000″ or “I give the Golden Crown Literary Society 100 shares of IBM stock.”

Make your bequest contingent:
“I give the Golden Crown Literary Society $25,000 if my niece and nephew predecease me.”  In addition to choosing how your bequest will come to us, you also have a say in how it will be used and acknowledged.

Make the gift unrestricted:
Your bequest is an ideal way to supplement the annual gifts you have made over the years so you can continue to support the Golden Crown Literary Society’s mission for the future.

Make the gift restricted:
Your bequest may be used to support a specific area of interest such as to provide a scholarship fund to pay for a new author to attend the GCLS Conference each year.

Memorialize or honor a loved one:
Create the Jane Smith Award for (for example) excellence in Science Fiction with a lesbian theme.

We can provide the organization’s correct legal name, as well as suggested wording for the various bequest types and methods mentioned above. This information can assist your attorney in finalizing your will.

The Mission of the Golden Crown Literary Society

The Golden Crown Literary Society (GCLS) is an educational organization whose mission is for the enjoyment, discussion, and enhancement of lesbian literature and creative non-fiction. Our goals are to support and strengthen quality lesbian writing by providing places for readers and writers to interact; to encourage and assist new writers and established authors to develop their craft; and to recognize and promote lesbian work.

An all-volunteer effort relying on the expertise of its members, the GCLS works to develop programs that provide ways for readers and writers to interact, to encourage and assist new writers and established authors, and to recognize and promote lesbian literary work. The GCLS is open to anyone interested in these goals.

 

The GCLS is continually searching for those interested in helping the GCLS grow and prosper. If you would like to serve on an advisory board, please email the director of the department you would like to work with, or contact one of the other advisory board members for more information.

The Golden Crown Literary Society is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is the promotion of, and education related to, lesbian fiction.
