Linda K. Silva on:    Developing Characters

    Cost: $25

Linda K. Silva discussed why characters are designed and built, and not necessarily created; how character creation is the first step in good fiction; and what you need to know about your characters before you put them into action on the page. She also discussed what teachers mean by 'Show don't Tell', and how to go about showing character emotion rather than telling the reader how they feel.

Linda Kay recently won the Alice B award for her body of work and is up for 5 Golden Crown Awards for 2013. She currently has four series being published:
    Man Eaters -- Zombie Thriller
    Echo Branson -- Paranornal
    Jessie Ferguson -- Time Travel
    Delta Stevens -- Mystery

Her 18th novel, In the Nick of Time came out in February, and The Horde is slated for publication in May of 2013. She is the recipient of two Goldies and one Lambda nomination, and she mentors young writers at a local middle school.
When not writing, which is seldom, Linda Kay is a Professor of literature at American Military University in West Virginia where she teaches American, World, British literature, African, Asian, Women's, and Modern Epic Fantasy literature. She is also the advisor for the LGBT Club at the university and she mentors several other young writers across the globe.

The Mission of the Golden Crown Literary Society

The Golden Crown Literary Society (GCLS) is an educational organization whose mission is for the enjoyment, discussion, and enhancement of lesbian literature and creative non-fiction. Our goals are to support and strengthen quality lesbian writing by providing places for readers and writers to interact; to encourage and assist new writers and established authors to develop their craft; and to recognize and promote lesbian work.

An all-volunteer effort relying on the expertise of its members, the GCLS works to develop programs that provide ways for readers and writers to interact, to encourage and assist new writers and established authors, and to recognize and promote lesbian literary work. The GCLS is open to anyone interested in these goals.

The GCLS is continually searching for those interested in helping the GCLS grow and prosper. If you would like to serve on an advisory board, please email the director of the department you would like to work with, or contact one of the other advisory board members for more information.

The Golden Crown Literary Society is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is the promotion of, and education related to, lesbian fiction.
